Team Logos ~ Aprillemly 34
are you looking for a professional logo, for an esports team, a twitch channel or even a gaming, youtube channel and you want something, to identify with as a brand that looks, cool and professional, and does not cost you an arm and a leg, to go out and pay somebody tons of money, if so stay tuned because we're going to, be talking about a really really cool, option that is fairly cheap that's going, to allow you to get, really cool graphics for a gaming, organization a stream, or a gaming youtube channel and give you, some really unique branding for yourself, roll that intro, [Music], what's going on guys chad here from, howtotech the channel dedicated to, helping you, take your tech to the next level today, we're going to be talking about, graphic design or more importantly how, to get you guys a logo without breaking, the bank, and we're actually going to be talking, about how to do this through a website, called place it, we've made a video on place it before if, you're interested check the card up, there we made a whole video talking, about place it for live streamers and, things like that, and we really didn't delve into much to, the logo creation because i wanted to, make a video specifically, on this uh that way other people that, aren't just looking for it for a stream, can also find a video similar to this so, hopefully, i do a good job of the search engine, optimization and, multiple people or many people out there, will be able to find this video, and help get themselves a really really, nice logo, so without further ado let's jump onto, the computer and, take a look at placeit's website and see, what we can find for, graphic designs and logos and stuff like, that to help make your, stream or youtube videos or even your, gaming organization that you plan on, starting, have a nice logo without breaking the, bank so let's go ahead and jump into, that, all right so now we're on playsits, website and where do we find logos well, they, are really awesome and they literally, have a logo maker, and a bunch of other cool stuff on here, and we could go to their logo maker, and just try to make one from scratch, from some of the stuff that they have, and it's really cool but for our example, we're actually going to go through this, list and we're going to look for, gaming teams and this is going to give, us a lot of, options here to create a gaming team or, like a gamer centric, um logo so let's go ahead and, let's act like we're doing one for my, youtube or my twitch channel, flux2d and see what we can find that, might look, cool for that so as you can see there, are tons of different ones out there, this one's for like if you wanted to do, an esports team you could do something, like that, looks really really cool you can see, that there's customization for colors, fonts and you'll even be able to change, on a lot of these, the logo that's being used so you don't, necessarily have to use the exact logo, you see there it just looks really cool, a lot of times with the fonts that they, pick, so let's see what we can find, for flux 2d i'm not seeing anything on, this front page that, i think would fit my twitch channel yet, and i'll probably not use, one without doing a little bit more um a, little bit more research on like, what's on here that i would like but, this video is not about me going through, every single page of here, on this website and finding something um, specifically for, you know my youtube or twitch stream or, whatnot so, let's go with i kind of like this one, the savant savage agent so let's go with, this, and whenever we get there it will give, us a preview of kind of what it looks, like, so we've got this here so i'm gonna go, ahead and change this from savage agents, to, flux and that should update the text, and yeah so we got flux and then we're, going to do 2d, and that should update the text over, here on this side so now we have flux, 2d i think that looks cool we don't want, gaming squad at the bottom because this, is just going to be, let's say for my stream and we can, select that, and we can see already we've got a, pretty neat looking logo, and it's pretty custom so what we could, do now is we could actually go in here, and adjust the colors so, my flux channel i try to actually keep, i don't remember what it's at right now, i haven't streamed in a while, unfortunately but i was going for more, of, a like purple design so let's maybe go, with something like that, actually i think more of a dark color, would look cool here, so let's go with like a gray i think, that looks good and then we can do, an accent color so, i think yeah kind of something like that, looks pretty good i think i want to, change these outline colors though, in the accent color so let's go with, that, and then go with a bright purple, i think this might look pretty neat so, [Music], i'm not feeling that so let's make it a, little bit darker and see if this looks, better, okay i'm kind of liking this more maybe, find something a little bit middle, ground, so we can update that and yeah i'm not, entirely feeling that so, let's switch these colors back this is, the honestly the coolest part about this, is we can go through here and adjust, things however we see fit, to get a really cool look so let's try a, lighter purple, and no let's try a dark one and we're, just gonna mess with these, you know move them around see what we, like see what we don't like, and i'm really not liking the purple and, gold so let's go with more of a blue, see if that looks better i think that's, okay, maybe a red no that's not gonna look, good, yeah that's okay uh let's go back with, like a dark purple, um as you can see i'm very particular, about my color design and stuff like, that so, that's something you guys have the, option of messing with and if we wanted, to we can go over here and adjust the, colors of this, uh text as well so for example, for the 2d i could change that to, [Music], that car that went by was really loud i, could change that to a purple if i, wanted to as well but i'm just going to, leave it, and then we can go through here and we, can actually really fine-tune these if, we don't like these fonts, so right now we're using korma and, we can see that these are the suggested, fonts for it but if i wanted to go with, something else like this, teko teko which i think looks a little, bit better let's try that, [Music], so i went with more of the thin techo, font t-e-k-o, hope i'm saying that right and as you, can see um, we're pretty much done there and there's, a lot more customization we could do, with these, and just to show you guys we're actually, going to change this top part here too, so let's say we wanted to go with this, guy instead of the other one, so we could go with this and we can, switch and see that we've got a whole, different design, aspect to it now and there are tons, of these different backgrounds and, different characters and things that we, could switch over to, let's see what this guy looks like, yeah i actually like this better so we, could go with something like this, and you can update it and i believe this, also has a video with it, so we'll see all right so it is done, animating so if we hover over it we can, see that it does a quick little, animation for us and if we click on it i, think it will actually, let us watch it back yeah, so that's pretty cool now we have the, option for an animated logo, and let's go ahead and see how much this, actually costs for you guys so if we, wanted to, we could um need to play all your slides, before downloading, okay, it's going to prepare the video and then, we're going to be able to do it so let's, give it just another second to process, and then see how much it cost, all right so it's done processing we can, see that it's playing out now, and it's even got some cool effect like, a shimmer on it too so that's pretty, cool, and it gives us two ways to purchase so, we could buy this video for 9.95, or we can end up buying a subscription, um, to place it and 89.69 a year, or we could pay 14 a month or we could, just go with this one if we want to, and commercial usage is okay which means, you guys can use it in your streams you, could use it in videos, all of that cool stuff or we could get a, free watermarked logrez one if we wanted, to but, that's not cool you don't want, watermarks in your streams and stuff, like that so, there is that and then there's also the, logo so if we click back on the logo, we'll go over to it, and it'll pull it up really quick and, we'll see how much it costs so that, little animated, kind of logo pop-up would be a really, cool thing for like a stream transition, once again only nine dollars and then if, we wanted to do this one, this logo is only 49 or 39.95 for this, logo and it's super custom, but here's the cool thing guys like i, said that video was 9.99 i believe it, was, and this is 39.95 if you just, started a one-month subscription for, 14.95, you cancel it immediately after the, first month and you could get access to, this, high resolution png with commercial, usage, and the high image quality is going to, be awesome because this is going to mean, that you can use it for a variety of, like products whether that's merchandise, or anything else you guys wanted to use, it for and you're only paying, 14.95 for this logo and an animated, version of one, and if you want to watch that other, video i was talking about it might be up, there i can't really tell because the, preview on the camera is actually, disabled right now, but if you went ahead and you did that, as well you could actually get updated, panels, and tons of other things for your stream, youtube videos or whatever else you guys, are doing, so all right guys that's going to be all, for this video if you enjoyed you know, what to do go ahead and destroy that, like button, and get subscribed here to how to tech, if you guys haven't already, for future videos on stuff related to, streaming maybe even more graphic design, stuff and i have to say if you guys are, not a graphic designer, place it is absolutely amazing because, it's going to be very cheap as a monthly, cost and it's going to give you way more, customization than other things, that i've seen out there i know there's, like subscription-based stuff that you, can get to customize your stream, through stream labs and other stuff like, that and while they are nice, they don't give you the option to create, a logo they don't give you the option to, create stuff for youtube if you wanted, to make recorded video content and throw, them out there, in the future this just gives you a, one-stop shop solution that lets you, create videos, and tons of other stuff such as logos, cards for your, twitch streams and end screens for, youtube, and tons of other stuff like that in one, unique package which i think is really, really good, and whenever we throw in the you know, the price of it being 14.95 or 14.99 a, month, that is just ridiculously cheap compared, to if you went out and paid a graphic, designer, now i don't know if they have stuff for, like emotes and stuff like that, on twitch but if they get a feature like, that soon this is going to be a, no-brainer to use for anybody, that does twitch and doesn't want to, have to pay somebody tons of money so, if you are a twitch affiliate and you, don't have tons of money to you know be, throwing at your stream for graphics and, things like that, or if you're looking at possibly making, twitch affiliate and you just want your, stream to look a little bit better or, you know create some personal branding, that is very unique to your stream, then check out place it i'll have a link, down below that link does help support, the channel and i appreciate it if you, guys ended up using that, this video is not sponsored by placeit i, just want to throw that out there as, well, and yeah once again thank you guys so, much for watching this video, and if you guys haven't check out our, community discord linked down below we, have over, a lot of people i i can't give you an, exact number i it's, slipping my mind right now we've got, tons of people over there and you guys, are becoming more and more active every, day a place to share your stream, youtube videos and just hang out with, other people and i plan on being more, active over there and maybe doing some, community streams with some of the, people over there so thank you guys, for checking that out also big thanks to, our patrons over on patreon if you guys, want to help support the channel, financially that's a way you can do so, and yeah big thanks to everybody over, there and thank you guys once again so, much for watching this video this has, been chad from howtotech helping you, guys take your tech to the next level, and i will see you guys in the next, video peace, [Music], foreign
Ask HN: This is weird, right?Met this dude at a meetup here in DC and he said he was looking for early stage investments, wanted to hear pitches. I started a few phone conversations with him and got that unmistakable vibe I was getting my ego stroked by a salesman. He seemed way too interested in moving through his process (which keeps coming back to him mentioning offshore outsourcing) without really seeming to know much about my project. That is certainly due to me not explaining it well, but it seems like a legitimate investor would have passed on me pretty early on, rather than keep telling me "everything sounds great, let's move on to the next step in the process".
I start trying to look up his "portfolio companies" to see what they are like, see if I can't contact any of them and get an idea of what sort of contribution he made for them. I don't know what I'd get out of it, I at least wanted to know what size of companies he's investing in.
And in the process, I find this. This is his site: http://www.3siholdings.com/#!portfolio/cee5
The first logo is his own company. The second logo isn't even a company, it's the logo for a technology incubation initiative from our governor. The third logo, I did a reverse image search on and all of the links, for several pages, are just like this:
http://www.healthstylecatalogue.com/#!hc-providers/cee5
http://www.scprivatecapital.net/#!portfolio/cee5
http://www.acisup.com/#!portfolio/cee5
They all have completely different "teams". What is this, some form of multi-level marketing scheme with which I'm not familiar?.
,Apitable:Infinite Cross Link and API-Based Database-Spreadsheet PlatformAPITable is an online visual database-spreadsheet hybrid and a lightweight data workspace that could generate a customize database and information system for your teams within a spreadsheet interface that you are familiar with.
Designed for project management and real-time collaboration, APITable has built-in API and amazing features like Infinite Cross Link, enterprise-grade permissions, BI dashboard, and ample templates based on more than 1,000 real cases.
The API feature, in particular, allows users to develop programs online and create freely. Using programming languages like Python, JavaScript, with a couple lines of code, everyone could read, batch, and write back data in real-time. Connecting to other systems, generating plug-ins for a variety of functions, you could complete them all in one place.
One of the most useful and favorable features is the Infinite Cross Link, which allows you to interrelate different tables with a few clicks. For example, you have table A for recording information of companies that you are working with, which contains company names, locations, logo, and so on. Also, you have table B of contact person from corresponding companies, which includes their names, phone number, and email.
Add a new field in table A, change the field type into Infinite Cross Link, and then choose table B in the record. Now you can freely select the contact person for each company as you need. More surprisingly, if you make some changes in table B, information that has already linked to table A will change accordingly in realtime. With a few clicks, you can arrange your data productively and flawlessly.
Our free version will be released shortly. If you are interested, contact us via info@apitable.us. Please tell us about what kinds of projects you are working on and what are you expecting to do with vikasheet..
,Ask HN: What are the pros and cons of DevOps?I came across this HN post recently
https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=20668168
> In practice, and talking from my experience, unless you're one of the lucky few this is what it really means to do DevOps in 2019:
- Forget what the books said, theory, semantics and idealism. You are a DevOps Engineer, working in a platform specific team.
- You deal with Jenkins or similar, and consult other teams or developers to write scripts for it, or worse, do the work for them since they're too busy doing actual programming.
- You are not allowed to come up with your own abstractions. Proposals to develop anything are automatically declined by your Product Owner, who simply points you to whatever tool with a fancy logo he could find listed in the Cloud Native Computing Foundation.
- You pride yourself for being an engineer, but decisions end up being only made in terms of getting free open source labor and ease up hiring, so you end up doing what everyone else is doing.
- Half of your team co-workers are perfectly fine dealing with churn, software updates and other sort of manual, classic sysadmin tasks.
- You are repeatedly being paged at night for problems that your fellow developers won't feel responsible for. You hear buzzwords and talks about this SRE thing or "you built it, you run it", but it never seems to materialise due to politics.
It used to be a lot of fun back in the day, and a great chance to get paid to solve interesting problems related to system and infrastructure engineering instead of the boring CRUD work that plagued the last decades, but seeing the "App Store" that this turned into, if you are a creative individual with a software engineering background and you're considering a career in DevOps, my advice is to run away while you can.
I wonder what developers are actually thinking about DevOps?.
,Jumpstart BundleI work for the Entrepreneurship department at my school (clarku.edu) and am putting together a software bundle with apps that will help students get their businesses off the ground. We will make these bundles available to student teams that are ready to launch.
I already have 5 free accounts to Less Accounting and am looking for other useful apps. If any of you would like to donate 5 free accounts to your app please let me know. I will also put you down as a sponsor at our next big event in march and your logo will be featured on all the flyers and posters.
It would be great if some of you could help out.
Thanks, guys!

,Ask HN: I'm 17. Should I drop school for YC S12?I'm extremely interesting in applying to Y Combinator for this summer. The only problem is that I'm still in Cegep (a two-year college for Quebec students before they go to university - I'm 17) and so if ever I get chosen, I still have one more year remaining to complete my program (International Baccalaureate in Pure & Applied Science).
I don't think I would drop it, because I ultimately intend to go in computer science at Stanford. Therefore, I would have to leave the Bay Area at the end of August in order to move back in Quebec and stay there during the year and come back in the summer when I'm finish my program.
I would still have time to work on my startup during the year, but at a much lower pace (2-3 hours each night and 8-12 hours on weekends). The other guy on my team (he's 17 too) is in a much less intensive program then me and he could continue working almost full-time on the startup.
Yet, if you guys tell me that I would absolutely need to continue working full-time on my startup, I will consider dropping school more seriously. It would be hard for me, but if it's really necessary I could do it. The thing is, the program I'm currently in, International Baccalaureate, is a program that I must complete in two years. The special thing about this program is that we are the same group for every class (we started 40 now we're 28). If I drop/fail a course, I'm out. And I then need to go in regular science. If ever I were to be selected for YC, the choice would be quite hard as I said, because I really enjoy my program, I'm fond of the other students and I appreciate the teachers a lot. And I also fear that I won't go back to school if I enter the startup world.
At least, I'd like to finish my program and then maybe take a break from school to focus on my startup. My program requires a lot of effort, it's considerably more challenging than regular science, and I just don't see myself dropping it when I'll be halfway through it, but still there's a lot of chance I would - it's 50/50. I'm constantly debating in my head whether I should drop or stay, but I guess I'll wait to see if I'm selected for YC to make a final decision. Ultimately, I feel I would drop my program, because YC is such an amazing opportunity and also because I have a very good co-founder who is a long-time friend of mine. He would definitely succeed in convincing me :P
Moreover, I'm the only one writing code. My co-founder (who's currently studying in Business Management) will be working on the marketing (posting on the blog, making videos showcasing the app, posters in schools and other places, talking with other companies so that they use our app, etc.) I also have a graphic designer that will not be directly involve in the startup but that will do my logo and help me design icons, textures, etc.
Without even knowing anything about my idea (I can tell you though that even if I'm the only technical founder, it's not an overwhelmingly complex app and I am confident that I could manage the coding alone. All features would get implemented during the summer. During the year, I would only make little changes to the user interface and update the content of the app, but I probably wont implement radically new features, that is if I choose to stay in school. The goal during the year would be to get as much users as possible and thats exactly what my co-founder would be working on full-time. Complex new features would get implemented in the following summer.), because really I don't want to be chosen for my idea but rather for my team (I've got this interesting idea that I want to work on, and I like it because I would actually use the app, and actually, Ive got a bunch of startup ideas (Im the kind of guy that always has tons of ambitious projects going on and new ideas in mind: I want to code apps, make feature films and crazy edits, learn new monologues by heart, run marathons, travel around the world and learn new things!), but this particular one is not too complex to implement, yet if it turns out that I choose to do a completely different project, then so be it! Anyway, I dont think the idea I apply with matters that much (but it ought to be good obviously), because anybody could apply to YC with a similar idea and develop a similar app. But would they really be as much passionate as us about the app and as much caring about the users, would they achieve to convince companies of using it, would they convince people of using it? I know we would. My point is that Im expecting to be chosen a lot more because of my team than because of my idea. (If you're interested to know what my app is though, email me (frabrunelle@gmail.com) or skype with me (francisbrunelle)). I want to build useful products and it thrills me that with the internet millions of people could be using them! But what thrills me even more is that if ever I do YC, I would be hanging around with dozens of other developers that are in the same situation as me. I want to discuss and debate about ideas with those developers. It would be an insanely great and enjoyable experience. And thats exactly why I want to do YC: for the experience.), do you think I have any chance of getting selected? Or should I wait for next summer, when I will have finish my program? The thing though is that I will still continue to go to school (Stanford, MIT, McGill or somewhere), so again I will have the same problem as the one I have right now.
I truly enjoy school but the real reason I want to go in c.s. at Stanford is to meet other c.s. students and start a startup with them. I'm also interested in studying in theatre, so I'm really not dropping school soon. But I don't want to wait after university to finally apply for YC, I feel ready now. The reason I want to go through YC is to meet interesting people, discuss ideas and because I'm sure it would be a tremendous experience. If I don't get chosen, I will still develop my app over the summer, but I just think YC is an outstanding opportunity and that I ought to at least submit an application. I will continue submitting applications every summer until I'm chosen.
P.S. As a developer, I'm not that skilled, but I always manage to figure things out by myself and find a way to do what I want. If I'm stuck, I don't easily give up. Nevertheless, I'm more of an idea guy. I'm currently following tutorials from http://www.raywenderlich.com/store since December in order to get more familiar with the iOS 5 SDK. When I'll finish them, I'll look at the Parse SDK (http://parse.com) and then at the Facebook iOS SDK (https://developers.facebook.com/). I will then code an app similar to FML but it will be called 'You know you're in IB when...', IB being the program I'm currently in. I will integrate the Parse SDK and the Facebook iOS SDK in this app. It's a simple app that I want to do for testing purposes and also because I know that my other classmates would actually use it and that fact motivates me a lot. I will then start working on the real app that I want to do for my startup. My goal is to have a working app with bare minimum features for the end of May so that I have something to show if ever I move to the Bay Area. I'm working toward this goal 2-3 hours everyday and 8-12 hours on weekends..
,Ask HN: Best source for logo-wear?I know that this question is not as deep or thought inspiring as many of the awesome posts here, but I am sure that this community has a wealth of experience in more mundane topics.
We're looking to get some logowear for our new startup, such as T-shirts, polos, hoodies, or button-up shirts. Anyone have any recommendations? We've looked into the Cafepress or Zazzle route, but on a single piece basis, it's still pricey. Is that the best approach? At first, we're going to get these items for our own use, a team of around 6-10 people.
Tnx!.
,Tell HN: Steal my ideas #2A while back I submitted a thread with ideas that I had but likely would never use. It got a decent response so I'm back with more free ideas for you to steal. Again I apologize if some of these already exist. If you've got your own, why not share them below?
Idea #1) Kickstarter in a box
It seems like every day I see a new story or blog post about X new product that was funded on Kickstarter. But what do the projects that get funded have in common? Usually they tend to have high quality videos, great photos of their prototypes, good rewards, clear and effective copy, etc.
However, the people with neat projects may not know much about video production, they aren't photographers, they may not have a website for their product, they may not be great writers, may not know marketing, etc. So the idea is to have a consulting firm that would offer a full service Kickstarter package. You'd get the creator with a great product a website, a high quality video, good donor incentives, great copy, high quality photographs, help marketing etc. In exchange you could take a % of their funding if successful, just like Kickstarter does.
Idea #2) A YC/Techstars consulting firm
The basic idea is that they'd obviously be a prior team or group of individuals that participated in YC/TS who would help hopeful applicants refine their applications, prepare pitches, interview practice, investment advice, etc.
Idea #3) Freelancer deals
The basic gist is that the site would sell the services of freelance designers, developers, writers, marketers, etc, Groupon style. Say you're a good designer but you're looking for work. You normally charge $60/hr. You could offer a special to this site to do 2 hours of work for X people for $20 instead. This would probably be enough time to make a decent logo/layout for someone. Although the designer may be doing work for far below their normal rate, their portfolio would be featured to everyone visiting the site. In addition they'd have the chance of recurring work at their normal rate from anyone who bought their deal. This also gives the buyer a chance to try someone temporarily at a minimal expense before making a bigger commitment.
Idea #4) Teach me
One on one live video music/gaming/etc lessons. Education related startups seem to be a really hot market right now so maybe some of these already exist. The basic idea is that you'd pick a niche and have a site of professionals in that niche. Say musicians for example. You'd be able to pick a guitar player that you like the style of and the site would allow you to take live streaming video lessons for $X/hr. The instructor would be able to give you immediate and instant feedback, etc. You could do this for a lot of industries I'd imagine.
Idea #5) Codecademy for investing
Many people are somewhat clueless about investing and saving for retirement. This site could help teach you on a basic khan academy level about the fundamentals of investing, guide you on the right types of investments for you based on info you provide, help you sort the different packages by various investment firms, etc..
,Odesk is not that badthere is a never ending stream of complaints and horror stories about odesk.
my experience is different.
I am using odesk for the last 4 years spent there tens of thousands of dollars,
most of the time it is incredibly useful. granted i had some failures but with "normal" hiring I had higher failure rate and each failure is much more expensive.
the biggest power of odesk is the speed of availability. within minutes i get many qualified contractors. ready to work.
speed unmatched.
last week i ordered a logo from a contractor on odesk and 24 hours later costing us 44 dollars, i got a logo for my new startup. (there was a full process of selection)
this logo would cost me hundreds of dollars going the normal path and will take forever. (you can see the logo at www.glue.im)
a while ago i got in trouble while administrating a server, 15 minutes later I had a great guy, a knowledgeable system admin to the rescue - problem solved. he also showed me what i did wrong $12.
now i use him to save my time.
as you can see English is not my native language, 3 hours before deadline for ycombinator submission, I need a quick English fixer
30 minutes later Evan from florida is with me on skype going over the document. $50 incredible job for the time he had.
ramen profitability - at glue (http://glue.im) we try to keep burn rate low while supercharging our code writing. with Odesk and our charm,
we keep burn rate < 5k while having 3 full time employees writing code + 1.5 founders. (the other half founder is writing this) we develop our mobile app on Android, iOS, and Tornado backend together.
with a diverse team from England, Ukraine and Bulgaria..
,Ask HN: Where/How to test user's perception about e.g. your logo?I have been using me logo for quite some time and just yesterday one of my friends told what he sees in the logo and it wasn't nice. I did not see it, neither anyone from my team nor anyone I handed my business card to.
What's in question is the letter F. What do you guys see?

This innovative model is called design crowdsourcing and now It is available to all entrepreneurs needing a brand identity for their new company.<p>April 06, 2011 09:36 AM Eastern Daylight Time nIamaSource.com successfully applying the graphic design crowdsourcing model to its platform is going increasingly used by European small business needing to develop their brand identity. Every company can post a contest on IamaSource, make a crowd of designers compete and get hundreds of custom designs to chose from: from logos to business card, from promotional brochures to website layouts.<p>One of the first needs in starting a new company is finding a talented graphic designer to entrust the development of the company’s image.<p>Commit the corporate image to a single designer can be difficult. Small businesses often need to get a lot of graphic proposals to tight deadlines and on very small budget. These needs can hardly be met hiring a single freelance or contacting an Ad agency while can be met using the on-line model of crowdsourcing design contests just as IamaSource.com allows to do.<p>Here is how IamaSource.com works: the customers describe what they need and how much are willing to spend (usually ranging from 200 € for logo designs, 250 € for brochure etc.). On the other side hundreds of designers start competing to achieve the best graphic design and meet the customers’ needs.<p>At the end of the contest the client chooses the best proposal among those received. The winning designer get the money prize while the client receives the final files of the artwork and all rights to use It.<p>On every contest are presented on average 400 custom made designs, so the platform is ideal for the most demanding customers.<p>IamaSource.com is dedicated to customers from all over the world and especially European companies and startups, who are approaching this new model successfully. “We have customers from Italy, Poland and Belgium but also from USA and South America” says the IamaSource team. “The money prizes that every company makes available to the participants are in EURO currency and this makes us ideally closer to European companies, which are using our platform in a enthusiastic way'. 'The thing that makes us more satisfied is to deal not only with companies more receptive to innovations, such as those of the IT industry, but also with small shops looking for the right logo for their business. This makes us understand that IamaSource is easily usable by anyone”.<p>The budget is 100% money back guaranteed if the designers who join the Contest are less than ten. 'IamaSource offer a 100% money back guarantee but it never occurred to date. ,A Startup’s Most Valuable Asset: The TeamStartup ventures are exciting, dynamic, and risky. They require a balance between luck, skill, and timing. Of all the essential elements regarding startup businesses, there is one particular element that remains paramount: the team members.
For many “financially-deficient” (aka bootstrapped) startups, choosing the correct team members/founders may be the most important decision the young company faces. Despite this truth, it is all too common for startups to constuct their team with insufficient or unsuitable candidates. This type of behavior is not just harmful, it’s potentially deadly for a young upstart business.
I see many startups invest most of their focus on things like: marketing strategies, business name / logo, and market position — before ever really considering the composition of their startup members. The fundamental problem with this is simple: idea and strategies mean nothing with the wrong people in the driver seat. It is critical to place the correct individuals in the correct positions in order to achieve maximum efficiency. This becomes difficult as a startup begins developing ideas and executing particular strategies.
Here are a few aspects to consider when constructing your startup’s fouding team.
Is your friend the “right” choice? Friends are the easiest and most convenient individuals to bring aboard your startup venture. Friendly conversation does not necessarily translate into smart business tactics, however. Your friend may be a great person to bounce ideas off of, but not the right business partner. Take advantage of your friend status and mentally project them into a startup role. From all that you know about that person, think about a few scenarios:
* how well do they handle stressful situations?
* do they possess perseverance or do they stop at the first sign of hardship?
* are they trustworthy?
* how well do they communicate?
* how do they handle uncertainty or chaotic situations?
* what is their level of dedication or passion towards projects?
No money, no problem. Lack of cash is often considered a major startup obstacle. And while this may be true in most circumstances, it does provide an indirect benefit in the case of bringing aboard team members. Startups with little to no working capital are fueled by one thing: passion. Bringing aboard individuals with no promise of monetary compensation ensures that they are in it for all the right reasons. You can worry about salary and payroll after you ship your first unit.
Previous entrepreneurs welcome. There are certain intangibles one learns from operating inside the trenches of a startup company that cannot be learned anywhere else. This is why you should always look to bring aboard previous entrepreneurs given the chance. The company benefits greatly from the individuals’ prior startup experience and you gain a trusted business partner who understands the difficulty associated with launching a business venture.
The most important point to remember is this: your startup’s most valuable asset is its team members…so choose your partners wisely! Remember that at the end of the day, you and your team are the ones putting the ideas and strategies in place. It’s not enough to have an idea, you need the physical manpower to execute them effectively. A founding team needs to have the right balance of intelligence, innovation, and drive. In order to achieve the correct balance, your team members must share a common passion while working towards shared goals.
trueventures-teammembersI saw a great affirmation of this belief when I came across a particular venture capital firm’s website, and noticed their portfolio companies. True Ventures, an early stage tech venture firm, showcases their portfolio companies in a refreshing way. If you notice, all of their investments are accompanied with a picture of the founding team. Although it is just a picture, it establishes the old investment addage of: “We invest in individuals, not companies.” This is something that we as entrepreneurs hear, but sometimes overlook..
,Ask HN: How to get this fraudulent copy of our website shut down?I run AutoTempest.com, a car listings search engine. A few weeks ago, someone registered autoStempest.com, with an extra 's'. They copied our logo and branding, as well as faking other information, such as their team and location. (For example, their "CEO" is actually the CEO of Edmunds.) They've taken other steps to appear legitimate, such as creating a fake Yelp profile and reviews.
From what we've heard from our users, they're creating fake craigslist listings, and when people contact them, they're directing them to links on their site, claiming to be "Auto Tempest". Then they solicit payments (presumably reservations or down payments, if not complete sight-unseen purchases), while using our name recognition to gain trust.
We've determined that their registrar is Namecheap (as is ours, coincidentally), and they are hosted by a company called Quasinetworks, NL. Interestingly, if you google that company, the first result is someone complaining about how they were unresponsive to abuse notifications; not a great sign. We did sent a message to their abuse contact, but haven't heard back. We also contacted Namecheap and did get a reply, but it appears they will only take down a domain with a) a court order, b) potentially a request from law enforcement, or c) a UDRP proceeding: https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/help/dndr/udrp-en
The problem with options c or especially a is that they're costly, and nothing would stop whoever is behind the site from simply registering a new confusingly similar domain. So, to start with we've submitted a report to ic3.gov, the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center. Hopefully if they confirm the site is fraudulent, they can request that Namecheap yank the domain. I've never submitted such a complaint before though, so I have no idea how responsive they are.
Is there anything else we could do to shut these scammers down?.

,Ask HN: Big Logo Argument, Edinburgh Startup WeekendWe are a group of 9 idiots taking part in the Edinburgh Startup Weekend and we are about to break apart at the seams because we cannot agree on our logo!
This is the home page which at the time of writing, has both logos up:
http://www.ZebRez.com
... and we'll keep both viewable here on a more permanent basis:
http://www.ZebRez.com/logo
Half of us believe that the top is clearly better, half of us are convinced that the bottom one is obviously the better choice.
Even worse, of the 60 or so other participants and passersby that we managed to grab and interrogate, the decision was more-or-less 50/50 too ... and always with strong feelings on both sides.
Just to put it all into perspective, this is just for an online reservations Web service, based upon Stripe Connect, which we think is going to turn out to be surprisingly useful ... but ... we are still at each other's throats over this damn logo argument, I'm up at 2AM writing this plea ... and the final pitches are at 5PM on tomorrow night!
So, we figured, why not get this argument settled, for once and for all, by the folks at Hacker News: should we go with the top one or the bottom one?
Thank you from all the argumentative idiots on the ZebRez team..
,An A.I Artificially intelligent logo creating mobile and web appHello everyone. We are a smart logo creating mobile and web app. We have not came up with a name for it as yet.

The App will charge a very small fee of $20 USD and the client will get all the high resolution PNG with vectors etc..
We are based in the Caribbean. We are made of a team of 4 people. Two designers and two developers.
What advice can you give us when launching the startup and what are some ways we can promote it......
This is our first startup..
,Ask HN: Book bomb for a Software Development Manager joining your companyAllow me to first set the context. The question is at the end.
On your first day on a new job, you receive a bouquet of goodies. Some of these are essential for you to perform your job (laptop, headphones, mouse, etc.) and the rest are "feel good" things (water bottle, t-shirt, a notebook, a pen, etc. with the company logo on them). I guess the idea is to make your first day memorable, and perhaps down the road, even remind you of this day. I often use a sweatshirt I received from my then employer some 8 years ago, and it still makes me smile to think of my days at that company.
Some companies give books to their prospective new employees (the famous book bomb at Amazon) to help them learn or brush up on a few skills they will need on the job. Employers who do this convey that they care about their people's intellectual growth. What follows is a list of three books that I think would be a good addition to your welcome kit for the new Software Development Managers joining your team.
First is [The Manager's Path][1], which can be a career guide for software developers who have chosen the path of management. The best thing about this book is that it is valuable no matter how far ahead you are on this path. Encouraging your new employees to start thinking in terms of their career ladder and growth path can be a strong motivator.
Second on this list is [Working Backwards: Insights, Stories, and Secrets from Inside Amazon][2]. This book distills the knowledge of ways of working that make Amazon successful. Applying even a few of these methods to your work, even if it is only at a personal level, will produce better outcomes for you.
The third is [Zero to One: Notes on Startups, or How to Build the Future][3]. The best part of this book is that it encourages business owners to solve problems by applying thinking that starts with first principles. It also teaches you to ask the questions that lead you to find value in unexpected places.
Question: What would you change or add to this list of books for new Software Development Managers joining your company/team? Why?

,Startup advice: When to hire professional branding/logo designWe're building an eHealth startup marketing to individuals. The team is three engineers/scientists, so we have great tech-- and limited graphic design or marketing skill.
We're getting ready to push out a beta version, and realize that our corporate image is terrible. We need a name, logo, color theme, etc.
Minimum price from decent brand agencies seems to be around 1,500.
99Designs/Upwork can give us something for a few hundred, but it isn't the full package, which means inconsistencies and lower quality.
How would you frame the question?.
,Tell HN: Arch Linux logo copied, issue resolvedThis is a follow-up to http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=648603.
From an update to their newsletter:
After this very article and the publicity it gained, the Arch Linux developer team received an unexpected e-mail from the operator of the company using our old logo. He has made a formal apology and has removed the logo from his website. The Arch Linux developer team considers the issue thereby resolved.
Apparently he received several threatening e-mails from members of our community. Honestly it was not our intention to motivate such actions. We know people tend to get out of hand sometimes when it comes to defending what they love, but for the future, please, that kind of behavior is not encouraged by any of us. Thanks for your support once more Arch Linux community..
