branding portion of your, brainstorm a challenge for any company, is determining its brand what's the, story what are the goals moving forward, is there a mission statement what does, your brand stand for these are all, crucial questions to answer when, deciding on a logo that resonates with, your brand it's okay if you don't have, the answers to these questions just yet, because after all that is what I'm here, for so I have three easy steps to help, you get on a brand first write a list of, adjectives that you feel best describe, your brand maybe your brand is delicate, mature or unique and original write a, minimum of 25 adjectives to start before, narrowing it down to the five that you, feel fit best next write down how you, want people to feel about your brand, maybe you will others to see your brand, as fearless or dependable or adaptive, create the ideal perception for your, brand and lastly for getting on brand, what emotions do you want to instill in, others from your logo so they be excited, should they feel a sense of calmness, maybe you want them to feel all warm, inside whatever the case may be this, will help shape your design later on, now that you know the feelings that you, want to exude create an inspiration, board like Pinterest you might be asking, yourself in my answer to that is yes, it's just like Pinterest find designs, colors fonts images styles anything in, the design world that grabs your, attention and put all those inspirations, into one place like on a physical poster, board so later you can identify trends, that you like the most as What will be the top 3 trends in 2016, that shape how we build our startups?Hey there,

During the holidays I was thinking about how 2016 will be different, better than 2015. There are a lot of articles about emerging markets, technologies, but those are the focus of entrepreneurs. But I'm interested in what will change in how we build startups...

Here are my top 3 guesses.

1. Augmented productivity:
I'm a fan of the gig economy ever since I ordered the first $5 logo design from fiverr. And I'm just starting to explore MTurk. This year I'll put a lot of effort into learning how to combine these with workflow automation services like Zapier, and new AI stuff... I think such methods could multiple personal productivity. Inspired by the guy who automated 90% of his work.

2. Improved startup-building platforms:
It would be such a blessing to multiply the ratio of successful startups, and lower the pain of failing. I mean, 9 out of 10 startups fail even in developed startup hubs. That's one metric that we need to fix. Traditional incubators and accelerators are nice, but not too effective in mitigating risks. I loved how YC started Research (http://blog.ycombinator.com/yc-research), and even more, that there are now so much more startup studios (http://buildtogether.co/startup-studio-list), and finally there's a booklet (http://laicos.com/anatomy-of-startup-studios-is-out/) that explains in detail how these venture builders work.

3.Crowd*:
Besides perk based crowdfunding, there are more and more platforms where you can offer equity in your startup for support. That just adds to the option of the founders to get the money they need... who know, maybe even faster than angel money and with better than vanilla term sheet conditions.

We recently built a prototype which helps get leads for businesses from social networks. By social network, we mean any places on the social sphere where people are genuinely raising enquires. Example: nowadays, a lot of Facebook groups for entrepreneurs and freelancers have grown so much. On these groups a lot of people post their queries and look for references. Example, someone might post that they need an Android Application done, a logo, content writer or even require an event agency. Being a service provider myself, I have received genuine leads from these groups. We are looking at smartly data mining these enquiries and showing these leads to the relevant business owners.

Our target audience would be SMEs and freelancers. They will be able to add the keywords associated with their business and leads associated with them will automatically appear on their Leadify dashboard. Then the business can contact them via our dashboard and try to close the deal.

We really want some support from the community in getting feedback. nHow can we improve it further? nWhat relevant data would a business owner want regarding the lead? nHow can we improve the lead generating experience of any business owner? nWhat problems does one face in normally getting leads? nHow much would a business owner be willing to pay if the product gives genuine value and helps convert 1-2 leads per month?

1st idea - MealDealz: Dining deals. Coupons and discounts for all the popular restaurants and fast food places. Now there are many alike.

2nd idea - MiServices: Directed toward younger individuals trying to make money on the side walking dogs or putting up christmas lights, etc but would like to be accredited through ratings. Something better than Craigslist but you're not licensed so you can't technically be on Angies list or Yelp.

3rd idea - Readr: Discover and share books you love and start a book club online. Have authors start a book club for their new releases, or fans start one. Now alike Goodreads.

4th idea - Betsy: make bets online and through our application with others on any topic from the Tech world, Entertainment, Sports, Politics, etc. Earn points, humblebrag and use the points to get cool rewards.

5th idea - standUP: organize all the online campaigns into one place. Enlighten people on common issues and how to take action through either petitions to congress, sharing the message or supporting the cause, etc. Show all the trending topics currently going on: Occupy Wall Street, GunControl, Internet Control, Oil Spill, Education, War on Drugs, etc. Then the main objective would be to help people establish their standpoint on the issue by showing all the different points of views and how they could easily take action all in one simple organized application. The app would be like the One campaign app.

Plus many other ideas! But these are the ones that I've either already worked on or are currently working on.

I am fascinated with the concept of building businesses, the surprises with successful marketing, and the power of social media and how much impact it has on the world.

I can assist in creating a business model. Assist in product design. Make Logo. Talk to potential customers, test design hypotheses. Figure out sales and marketing strategy, find beta users, warm up early adopters, performance tracking, online profiles, help create a blog. Research. Checking up on competitors and how they do business. Or help collectively create a meaningful mission statement explaining why we give this service/product.

,Ask HN: How can I “share” part of my code with a client?I'm bootstrapping a software project as a solo entrepreneur (currently closed-source, owned / written by me) and I soon plan to take on some consulting work on the side where it looks like it may make sense to let them use a small portion of the code I'm working on.

My question is, is there a way I can actually do that in such a way that I make sure they have the rights to use it however they need, without giving away the right to use my own code however I want in the future?

I'm starting with something that represents, say, 5% of my own project's code base, and part of what they're paying me for is to flesh that out in a way that's very customized for them.

My client is pretty accommodating and I think would be open to any reasonable suggestion, so my question is just about what makes sense to cover everyone's bases.

Something I'm considering is making that "5%" I start with open source, and using it as a package- anything "generic" goes there, while other things (like client-specific UI details / logo, or anything with sensitive client info) can just be totally owned by them.

Any suggestions about how to approach this, or resources / links that might cover this sort of situation?.

I am a new developer, a first year CS student, and an aspiring entrepreneur. I am building my first 'real' web app this summer, and I am just looking for some general guidelines. I really don't know how long it is going to take, and I know a lot of this depends on the experience of the developer. So let me give you a little background on me:

I have been programming for about 2 years. I feel like my knowledge of Python is pretty good, although I never stop learning! I have been reading up on Django and have done the tutorial on models/views/etc. I also have done front end stuff, mainly playing around with HTML/CSS/Javascript, although I could definitely spend more time on learning Javascript/jQuery. I could go on, but I don't want to bore you to death, and I just am looking for an estimate anyways.

My app will handle many users at one time. It will basically be a CRUD app. The two things I really have to add in are Geolocation, and payments, both of which can be achieved through integrating third party services/API's. Everything except for logo design has to be done by myself.

So if I threw this at an experienced full stack developer, how long would it (approximately) take? How do I break something like this into smaller chunks to estimate the time it will take? And most importantly, how do I know which technologies I should brush up on prior to doing this - or do I just hack it and learn as I go?

EDIT: I am focusing solely on the tech side of things. While I know our product better than him, and very much contribute to our vision, he is responsible for handling business/legal/marketing etc..
,Ask HN: Should I Not Be Sad About White-Labeling My Product to a Fortune-50?Some context: I started a company over a year ago and having been busting my ass (along with my team of course!) to build and sell. I'm not the CEO, because I absolutely hate meetings. Along the way, a fortune 50 company came to us and after a series of meetings our CEO decided it would be best to white label to them. This company is absolutely stoked and is promising to turn this into a billion dollar a year revenue stream over the next 5-6 years. Seems good, right?

Wrong. With this deal comes the inability to sell to anyone else. We also are not allowed to place our logo on the product anymore. Essentially, our company disappears in the eyes of the public, only to exist to serve this larger company. They have already begun dictating features and designs of the product since they will now be taking "ownership" of it worldwide.

From a business POV, I know this is a smart idea because it gives my company the leverage it needs to break into the global market and actually compete. From an entrepreneurs POV, I'm fucking sad. Our vision, our brand, our name...all gone. I feel like we sold out. But I can't say no, because I'd be an idiot to say no to this deal.

Anyone else have experience in this area? Can anyone else relate?.

Ramaze is a Ruby framework that while generally underrated has a lot of potential. Compared to other Ruby frameworks it's probably the most Ruby-like framework as it does not enforce a new way of thinking and developing applications, instead it adds a lot of functionality to Rack and Ruby to make it easier to develop MVC based applications (although you don't have to stick to the MVC pattern).

When looking at other frameworks, regardless of their language, I personally think Ramaze is the most flexible one out there. However, there is one big problem: we're not widely know. This issue is caused by multiple things but the two most important ones are relatively bad documentation and a website that isn't very informative when it comes to helping newcomers. While the documentation is something we've been discussing for quite some time and actually are working on it the website is something we need to let somebody else do. Not because we don't want to do it ourselves but because we're developers and not designers. So far I and several other Ramaze members (manveru, Pistos, etc) have had a few chat sessions and we agreed that the following has to be done regarding the website (ramaze.net)

* The homepage should show a basic example about how to use Ramaze, a good example would be the website of Sinatra (sinatrarb.com)

* A blog to keep people up to date with the latest Ramaze news

* A showcase of Ramaze applications

* A userguide, either in the form of a wiki or something else. Currently there's book.ramaze.net but it's unorganized and out of date

While the other Ramaze members liked the design I'm not that fond of it myself and I'd rather spend my time coding and improving the actual
code rather than making a website :)

What we're looking for is a good designer who's willing to contribute to an open source project by designing the new website for Ramaze. I'm going to be honest with you, there's a good chance you won't earn a penny from it but keep this in mind: you're probably using open source software (Chromium, Firefox, etc) as well so you'd be a big hypocrite and a dick to say 'Meh, open source is for fags'. Other than that I might be willing to pay money for it based on the results but that's something we'll discuss once there's a better idea of how the design will look, how much time it will take and so on.

What we're not looking for are 12 year old entrepreneurs who think that using a few gradients equals proper design. This may sound rude but I'm going to say it up front to prevent any misunderstandings. Now don't get me wrong, if you're young like me (I'm only 18 actually) this doesn't mean you're not welcome it's just that in general people below a certain age (usually 18-20) don't have enough real-life experience to know how to handle clients. I might have experience in coding but since I've only been doing it for a few years (5 or so) and only about a year on a professional basis I still don't fully get how to handle clients and such. To cut a long story short, here's the type of designer we're looking for:

* Decent amount of experience, knowledge of the web is a big plus

* Understanding of how open source projects work

* Proper knowledge of color theories, we don't need pink + green

* Well organized, I'm not going to wait 2 months for the design so don't bother replying if you feel that it's more important to teabag people in Halo than to finish that design you were supposed to finish 2 weeks ago

Do note that you don't have to slice the design into HTML as we'll handle this ourselves, as rude as it may sound designers tend to have very limited knowledge of how to organize your HTML and CSS in a proper way. We're just looking for somebody to create the actual design.

In order to make your life easier here are some extra details about Ramaze:

* The color scheme is red and gray mainly but other colors are welcome as long as they mix with the logo (https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/efb21e9eb7a8ced4c808086b77cd86d0?s=140)

Main idea is in virus scaning, if site is dangerous for users, after scaning system will offer removing services. If site is not dangerous, system will offer secure services for more higher protection.
