if you found this video the chances are, you're wanting to add your company logo, to your LinkedIn profile if so you're in, the right place I'm Naomi Johnson the, founder of the profile company and in, this technical tutorial I'm gonna, personally show you how to add your, company logo to your LinkedIn profile, now your company logo can sit next to, the entry for your experience for the, company you're working for on the left, hand side as you can see when AB logo is, uh played it you'll see it there and, when it's not there you'll see this gray, box gray boxes are quite ugly we don't, really want them there we really would, like to get the logo in now the logo, isn't something you can upload directly, to your profile it actually comes from, the company page which is why this, particular entry here doesn't have a, logo because there is no company page, for my books now I could have changed, that I could have added it into my, profile company entry however this would, have deleted out the entry for the books, and it would also have linked them, together in a way that just wouldn't, feature the content the way I wanted so, I've made the decision just to stay with, the gray box so how do you change this, leggo how do you make that logo look the, way you want to make it look well, firstly as I said it is attached to the, company page that you've already set up, but just how do you connect it to the, company page what we're going to do is, we're going to click on the blue pencil, we're going to come to company and as, you can see when I click on it I get, items in the drop-down so I'm just going, to delete that it would disappear and it, will give me the option to add in a new, one so here you can see the options and, you would just click on DLL financial, services if that's the one you want or, it might be that you want one of the, other ones just scroll down till you, find the company page that you want to, be linking to and then click Save if the, logo isn't the one you want all you'll, need to do if you are the company page, owner just come over to the company page, and just do some admin in here by, changing the the logo within the, settings if you found this video helpful, why not subscribe to, YouTube channel for more helpful videos, like this, [Music], [Applause]
Why is LinkedIn logo animating to an “m”?,Tell HN: LinkedIn is automatically importing job postings into company profilesI work at a company that is not actively hiring, so imagine my surprise when I see 5+ job postings on my company's LinkedIn page.
It appears that LinkedIn is automatically importing job postings from other places on LinkedIn and other sites such as angel.co if the company name of the job posting matches your company name on LinkedIn.
After importing, the job postings will display your company logo, company description, profile pictures of your connections that already work there, etc, just like a real job posting. The "Apply" link redirects to the original job posting such as from angel.co.
The only reason I was able to tell these are not legitimate is because the descriptions of the posts clearly describe a different company.
So it seems to be a phishing opportunity is to create a profile on LinkedIn or angel.co with a company name that matches your target company. Write some job postings with descriptions that look like a job posting that the company would actually hire. And now those job postings will be reposted onto the official LinkedIn pages of the company, and applicants will be redirected to your phished webpage..
,How much should I pay for a logo?,Ask HN: Please stop putting “(We’re hiring!)” in your LinkedIn position title?I just want to go on record and say I find this to be an insufferable exercise in virtue signaling. Has anyone ever read this in a job title and applied to the company because of it? Or is it just a way to show that you have hiring power? If you’re a founder who does this, please stop. If you’re not a founder and you’re doing it, consider getting a tattoo of your company logo instead.
Sorry, rant over. This has always been a pet peeve of mine. Please don’t do this there..
,Ask HN: Logout or close tab?Regardless of the site, do you usually logout or do you just close the browser?
I ask because today in my settings on Linkedin I found that I had over 50 open sessions! And then the same thing on my Pinterest! Does it matter?.
,Launch HN: Mutiny (YC S18) – Website Personalization for B2B CompaniesHello everyone!
We're Jaleh & Nikhil, the founders of Mutiny (https://www.mutinyhq.com/). We help companies personalize their website for each visitor to close more sales.
We are built for B2B companies that are actively growing their website traffic. For the majority of these companies, 97-99% of their visitors don’t convert to a trial or sales conversation. Typically the reason is that when potential customers come to their site they don’t understand why the product is great for them. This happens because customers from different industries and company sizes are looking for different things when they land on a website and are motivated by different social proof.
Mutiny enables B2B companies to dynamically customize the website’s message, images, and call-to-action to match the visitor. For example, one of our customers Amplitude, a product analytics company, changes its website’s customer logos on their pricing page and signup form to match the visitor’s industry. This specific personalization generates 54% more leads. Another customer Carta, an equity management product, changes their homepage headline and messaging to highlight product features that matter most based on the visitor’s company size. They have seen 80% more leads in their smaller customer segments as a result.
Mutiny was inspired by our own experience. Nikhil and I were early Gusto employees and helped grow the company from 500 to 50,000 customers such as startups, restaurants and accounting firms. I led marketing and quickly learned that the same message did not work for all the businesses we served, resulting in low conversion rates. This problem got worse as we started to spend more on advertising/content and attracting customers who had never heard of us before. Personalizing the buyer experience helped increase conversion rates, but doing it well required a lot of expertise and engineering work. And after speaking with other marketers and growth teams we realized that virtually every B2B company serves multiple audiences with different needs, but doesn't have sufficient engineering support to personalize their experience.
Here’s how it works:
Set up: User adds the Mutiny javascript to their website and defines their website conversion events in the Mutiny UI.
1. Understand visitors: We have pre-built data integrations (e.g. Clearbit, Segment, Salesforce, UTM) to identify visitors by their industry, company size, funnel stage, advertising campaign, free user v/s paid user and more. We also display how many visitors fall into each segment and what their conversion is.
2. Prioritize the highest impact segments: Mutiny analyzes visitor traffic, conversion & CRM data to recommend the best audience segments for personalization. It then suggests personalization playbooks that fit with the recommended segment & walks the user through best practices for personalizing each segment’s experience.
3. Personalize any website element: Users can load any page on their website inside Mutiny’s visual editor, and change any html element such as text, image or call-to-action for that segment.
4. Measure results: Every Mutiny experience has an automatic control group that never sees personalization, allowing users to measure the impact of personalized experiences compared to non-personalized.
Mutiny is being used by Brex, Segment, Elastic, Amplitude, Carta & others who are seeing 40-200% more leads with Mutiny. Our detailed case studies including screenshots of personalized web pages are available here: https://www.mutinyhq.com/cases/
We have released 30+ personalization playbooks that we have seen work well across b2b companies here: https://www.mutinyhq.com/playbooks. If you are a smaller startup with little website traffic, but are actively reaching out to potential customers through email or LinkedIn, check out the “ABM” (Account based Marketing) playbooks.
We are super excited to be on HN today and will be around all day to hear about your experiences, any ideas, and feedback you might have..
,Releasing startup soon -- Constructive criticisms needed for "buzz" pageHN,
I know all you guys have a short time so Ill try to be as quick as possible. A friend and I are going to release our startup in about two months that will be a social approach to rating, buying, sharing and collecting coffee.
37signals getting real is a book I hold close and dear and they recommend to get out a buzz page to collect contacts. So I built a simple one with a few features:
- Linked up to fb instead of asking for emails for social proofing and its a lot easier to like something than give up your email address.
- Showed my friends screenshots to get quotes, linked to their twitter accounts to give credibility
- Since its not released it hasnt been featured in any outlets, I did however submit it to some of the leading link dumps and put their logos in there. Even though being seen on digg isnt a big deal, the logos add credibility
- Offered incentives that will be followed up on: early adopter badges and early invites.
What Id like from you guys:
1. Like it if you like coffee. Id be smitten.
2. What would you do to make a more efficient and effective buzz page to collect user bases? What pearls of wisdom do you have to market and grow a new web app/startup?
3. If you are a coffee drinker, how do you think technology can be used to make your coffee experience better? What would you really like to see in future iterations of a coffee application? (Some early requests from friends has been to add coffeehouses in the mix).

,Ask HN: How to assess a software's popularity and good quality?I am researching indicators of a software's popularity and good qualities. How do you determine that some piece of software is good and popular?
Think in terms of how you might decide which framework you should use for a long-term project. I don't want to bias you too much, but here are some examples (which may not always be applicable). Feel free to go a bit outside the box.
- great documentation
- well-commented code
- number of contributors and stars on GitHub
- references on Hacker News, Stack Exchange and relevant
subreddits
- lots of videos on YouTube
- logo and branding
- conferences and workshops
- mentions in skills and experience on LinkedIn
- mentions in job offers
- frequency of searches in Google Trends
tl;dr: How would you assess a software's popularity and good quality?.
,Help us solve API Terms of Service warning readability for developersDo you remember Twitter breaking hundred of thousands of application because of abrupt API toS change? Facebook breaking APIs without notice? Google changing Google Maps API freemium pricing killing thousands of map integrations? Linkedin killing API access to startup competing with them? If developers had read carefully API Term of Service, they would have known the danger.
Can I use this API safely in the long term is a difficult question to answer in the Digital world we live in. Most of the time, developers discover that their API access has been revoked when users complain their app does not work anymore.
On https://www.apitos.org/ we intend to build a framework making API Terms of service easily shareable and understandable, under the form of a creative commons pattern composed by simple logos and warnings. A quick survey is at your disposal to collect more feedback. Open to debate about what is important for developers and ideas/Feedback welcome!.
,Looking for feedback, $5/off promo code for select Toronto restaurantsHey, HN folks from Toronto!
We're looking for feedback on our new product - we believe in giving before we get, so we'd like to give all of you a $5/off coupon in return for some feedback on our product.
"If you are not embarrassed by the first version of your product, you’ve launched too late." - Reid Hoffman, Founder, LinkedIn
Our version one is: www.fastvenues.com (new name/brand/logo/domain and UI/UX is underway for version two.)
Promo code: "chab1" can be used on check-out, to save $5/off any of the restaurants that we have listed.
Idea: you're hungry and you don't know what to eat you visit fastvenues.com and see restaurants around you that offer set-menu, meal deals. By booking and pre-paying through fastvenues.com you get the deal. The main value is that you know you're hungry and these set-menu's are what we recommend, so you won't have to choose from a huge menu we recommend what's best.
We're open to any feedback that we can apply to version 2, or in general.
Thanks!.
,Ask YC: Why does Paul Graham use the Yahoo favicon?Whenever i go to www.paulgraham.com, I notice that the site uses a favicon that is extremely similar to the Yahoo logo, (i.e. Y!). It even uses the same color and font. Can this be linked to PG once working in Yahoo or does it just stand for YCombinator? I am really curious, any hints?.
,Apitable:Infinite Cross Link and API-Based Database-Spreadsheet PlatformAPITable is an online visual database-spreadsheet hybrid and a lightweight data workspace that could generate a customize database and information system for your teams within a spreadsheet interface that you are familiar with.
Designed for project management and real-time collaboration, APITable has built-in API and amazing features like Infinite Cross Link, enterprise-grade permissions, BI dashboard, and ample templates based on more than 1,000 real cases.
The API feature, in particular, allows users to develop programs online and create freely. Using programming languages like Python, JavaScript, with a couple lines of code, everyone could read, batch, and write back data in real-time. Connecting to other systems, generating plug-ins for a variety of functions, you could complete them all in one place.
One of the most useful and favorable features is the Infinite Cross Link, which allows you to interrelate different tables with a few clicks. For example, you have table A for recording information of companies that you are working with, which contains company names, locations, logo, and so on. Also, you have table B of contact person from corresponding companies, which includes their names, phone number, and email.
Add a new field in table A, change the field type into Infinite Cross Link, and then choose table B in the record. Now you can freely select the contact person for each company as you need. More surprisingly, if you make some changes in table B, information that has already linked to table A will change accordingly in realtime. With a few clicks, you can arrange your data productively and flawlessly.
Our free version will be released shortly. If you are interested, contact us via info@apitable.us. Please tell us about what kinds of projects you are working on and what are you expecting to do with vikasheet..
,I need help with an open source app to keep Canadians in touch with ParliamentAndroid Source (https://github.com/sunnypurewal/epac-android)
Android App (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.dinglebox.epac)
iOS Source (https://github.com/sunnypurewal/epac-ios/)
iOS App (https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/epac/id1224459142?mt=8)
I recently released both iOS and Android versions of an app that turns Hansard into a chat bot. I am interested in vastly extending the features in this app to include all of the data available on http://www.parl.gc.ca/ A few immediate examples are creating a French version of the app and designing a new logo.
It is too easy these days to be uninformed about what's happening in the federal government. Following Parliamentary proceedings is an important aspect of keeping tabs on government but it is too often reduced to short sound bites in the news, or presented in an almost unwatchable format such as on CPAC. I want to take the trove of data made available by Parliament and present it in a way that is engaging using modern technology. All data provided by the government are made available under the Speaker's Permission (http://www.parl.gc.ca/SpeakerPermission.aspx?Language=E) and is prohibited from being used for financial gain, so the benefit of this project is purely a public service.
I originally planned to do this work individually but I realized I would not be able to deliver features quickly enough on my own. I believe this app is a valuable resource for staying informed and I am confident that people will use it given the feedback I have received already. I'm hoping that by making this app open source, that there will be others that share this belief and will want to contribute.
If you are interested, try out the app on your smartphone, and take a look at the data sources at http://www.parl.gc.ca/ParlBusiness.aspx?Language=E and the code linked at the top of the post. Send me a message if you want to help..
,Ask YC: Would you sign this if you were me?I was recently approached by a media agency looking to syndicate my blog's content, make it mobile friendly, find and put ads on it and revenue share with me. The term sheet is a bit daunting though. The highlights are:
I get 30% of adjusted gross advertising revenue.
'Initial term is one (1) year. Then, repeated one (1) year automatic renewals, unless Owner notifies [media agency] of non-
renewal in writing. [media agency] will have a 30-day exclusive right of first negotiation after any termination, expiration or non-
renewal. Owner will not have discussions or negotiations with any third party until 30 days of negotiation are complete.' That was initially 2 years but I got them to work it down.
I only get paid if my amount payable exceeds $1000.. which I think will take a long time.
I have to put their logo and slogan on my site.
'Owner must ensure that factual assertions in the Internet Blog are true and that no content on or linked to by the
Internet Blog will be obscene, pornographic, abusive, harassing, intimidating, deceitful, deceptive, offensive, or violate any
law, or any right of any third party (including copyrights, trademarks, or trade secrets), or disparage [media agency] or its products or
services.'
I'm a bit wary about that one as they hold me liable for what I write about.
'Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability. [media agency] makes no representation or warranties express or implied and
disclaims any implied warranty. In any case, [media agency]’s liability to Owner will be limited to $100.'
Feedback greatly appreciated. Also, is Google okay with essentially duplicate content floating around elsewhere on the net? I thought this was a big no-no..
,Ask HN: Need a simple barebones static landing site service for a charityIdeally, would love something along the lines of Netscape Navigator browser's "Composer" which has been duplicated in SeaMonkey ... but without having to micro-manage things like cell border widths and such.
The closest thing found so far is Carrd, but it doesn't seem to allow for the flexibility of Composer.
Basically, need something that effortlessly allows a "WYSIWYG"-type approach to having a single, static landing page with the ability to add a little bit of text, an image or two initially, and the ability to maybe add more images on the landing page OR have a separate "Partners" page where corporate logos and maybe some contact info for a key person could be added.
Pretty much everything so far is overkill, insists on flashy "pre-built templates" that take away from the core presentation and don't even allow for the "look-and-feel" desired.
At the same time, hiring a web dev, even on outsourcing sites, seems a bit too much PLUS maintaining control of all aspects of the site would be crucial for security purposes.
Thought about Facebook or Reddit which WOULD allow for group communications, but have had horrible experiences with both where previous accounts/subreddits were banned "by accident" for technical reasons that the companies agreed were in error, and yet have inexplicably failed to be of assistance in retrieving the data lost, despite agreeing that the accounts/subreddits were flagged "by mistake" via automated processes they developed but refuse to take responsibility for ("It's not OUR fault, "the Ai" did that" ...)
Anyone have any ideas?
I've looked at "landing page" services, but again it seems like overkill with too many things that have nothing to do with what this project is about, and again most of them seem to have this insistence on dime-a-dozen "templates" that clutter the presentation and have nothing to do with what is actually desired.
tl;dr: Looking for a simple WYSIWG web-based service that can (preferably automatically, linked with domain name creation/integration/management) publish a 1-2 page landing site with the ability to edit minimum text and flexibly add photos of partner companies as they sign up.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions..

Does anyone here have any thoughts on this that they would care to share?.
